Reasons for doubting.
by New day insomebody mentioned in a recent topic that they had a conversation with a former elder whose breaking point was when the overlapping generation was highlighted in recent times and how he would never serve again until somebody gave him a scriptural reason to believe it.
i am in a similar position.
i have gone in the last 18 months from taking the wt study, leading fs groups, and doing talks on the mtngs to doing almost nothing, as i resigned a little over a year ago as an elder due to a combination of family responsibilities and huge doubts.

Congratulations New Day on being able to see the real light of day which does not shine on the Watchtower. -

Yeah, my parents plan to will everything to this parasitic organization and forsake their seed
by Phaedra inyeah, they'll leave it all, their home, savings, etc.. never mind helping out their struggling children who never had a chance.. fuck this organization and everything it stands for when its members think god will favor them more by willing everything to a corporation instead of their own struggling seed..

How can people subscribe to a religion which places the commercial interests of the leadership above the welfare of the followers and their families?
We're with you Phaedra.

For the Supporters of Those Who Love Jehovah
by lovesjehovah ini am jehovah's witness, despite some of the questionable teachings, crimes, and other outlandish behaviors of specific people affiliated with the religion.
i know that my relationship with jehovah is not influenced by any outside factors.
i do not condone any crime.

Loves Jehovah, it's good of you to post and you certainly have a big response, annoyingly perhaps not from the segment of society you were fishing for but a response nevertheless. I'll admit it I am no longer interested in Jehovah but if I was gay and born into a cult which condemned homosexuality, I would feel persecuted and hard done by. I would think why should life be so unfair to me. I might compensate by becoming fixated on the object of my parents worship of Big J, I might shut out everything else and show them all what I am really made of by my zeal and heroic efforts to let people know who god is.
Please think again. You have a worthwhile life ahead of you. You are not condemned to suffer under JW religious bigotry. Jehovah I'm afraid is just a fantasy based on a pathetic Canaanite idol from the Bronze Age adopted by politically impotent Hebrew zealots in the Iron Age and their plight was written up in texts which formed part of the Bible.
You a not beholden to this fairy tale, you have a much more important life to lead... your own.

Seriously.... Something has to be done.
by DATA-DOG ini am aware of the constant debate about whether or not to confront jws, because they will merely retreat behind their persecution complex.
well, i say, "bull shit!
religitards, as in the case of the recent paris attacks, ( yes, the jws are equal to those terrorists, is so much as they perpetuate lies that ultimately retard the progress of mankind), must be challenged without remorse, as their assertions are made without remorse for those who are forever scarred by their lies.

You ar right Vidiot, the belief system is not understood by all, it doesn't make sense it is not coherent and for goodness sake it is ever changing! Why on earth don't they just wake up? (he said rhetorically) -

1914—The Turning Point in History - Really?
by berrygerry in1914the turning point in history.
30 from the human standpoint, the world troubles and global wars foretold in the bible were far from the thinking of the pre-1914 world.

Nathan Natas, you're right I should stick with it, I might improve my comprehension. I had no intention of diminishing your statement only to add that the conventional Watchtower viewpoint of 1914 as an invisible heavenly event only began after that date (1927?) and hence not "always".
Russell's earlier idea of invisible heavenly events was applied to 1874 (and 1878) and that by 1914 visible evidence of the Kingdom rule would have been experienced world-wide. All bunkum anyway.

I agree Jook, the pathetic squirming in attempting to correct their earlier fraud is at odds with the transparency and directness of modern media.
Their nineteenth century religious doctrines and authority will wither and die under the scrutiny of the information age.

Why does the Watchtower leadership slap its own defenders in the face?
by slimboyfat intake the case of rolf furuli.
i don't think there has been a specific thread on the hebrew verbs u-turn in the nwt, and how the society has responded to the work of perhaps their brightest and ablest defender in their history.
so here goes.. rolf furuli has defended jws on multiple fronts in many different settings, on issues ranging from chronology, mental health, doctrines, bible translation and the blood issue.

Slimboyfat, I cannot find sources for Fred Franz's Jewish scholar friend. I think I trawled it up recalling an assembly speech by him (approximately two centuries ago) where he mentioned his friend...as I recall, in warmly appreciative terms with me noting at the time the incongruity of him having a close worldly associate.
I also remember looking at the material which Fencing mentions where Furuli and others gave a numerical value to the accuracy of the astronomical evidence for 607BCE. This needs re-visiting and clarifying.

Perhaps because they are suspicious of academics even in their own ranks? What you say is very interesting but I guess any insights into the Hebrew auxiliary verbs was the input given to Fred Franz from his Jewish scholar friend. (He was allowed to have friends outside of the org 'cos it was his org!).
There is yet to arise an apologist for the Watchtower beliefs who dare look into the literary sources of the texts. This would be a most enlightening development since for the first time the Watchtower would be confronted with the exotic courtly accounts and pagan myth which were copied to form much of the true origins of the Bible.
Nevertheless Furuli is an exceptional case but no one below the rank of GB is permitted to let their light shine brighter than their leaders.

Slimboyfat, of course JWs are no where near as dangerous as ISIS although they threaten the death of all non believers, at least only harm their own.
